Love Learning. Aim High. Trust God.
At Hertford St Andrew, children learn to speak Spanish as our main foreign language. Spanish is widely spoken around the world and offers children the opportunity to understand the language of many countries and communities.
The study of languages prepares pupils to participate in a rapidly changing world, in which work and other activities are increasingly carried out in languages other than English. It is our intent, at Hertford St Andrew Primary school, to provide all of our children with a high quality education in Modern Foreign Languages (Spanish), which develops their love of learning about other languages and cultures and helps provide them with an understanding of the world.
Building on our vision of, “Let your light shine b” (Matthew 5:16), our MFL curriculum contributes to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our children as we aim for children to:
Implementation
At Hertford St Andrew School, we deliver the National Curriculum objectives through the Language Angels Scheme of learning. The excellent resources provided by this scheme ensures quality, impactful teaching in all classrooms, in speaking the target language (Spanish) through the use of authentic audio visual resources for teaching.
The Language Angels Progression Map shows how pupil foreign language learning across each of the key skills of SPEAKING, LISTENING, READING, WRITING and GRAMMAR progresses within each Language Angels Teaching Type. It also shows how the level of learning and progression of each pupil is increased as pupils move across each subsequently more challenging Language Angels Teaching Type from Early Language to Intermediate and on to Progressive.
