Attendance

Vision

At Hertford St Andrew Primary, we believe that good attendance is very important. If children are regularly absent, they cannot reach their potential as they miss out on key learning. They also miss time with their friends and social and emotional development.

We want all children to have a sense of belonging and achievement in school. That is why we work so hard to promote good attendance. When children are settled in school and feel like they belong, it helps them feel happy and secure and it helps them learn.

We want children to build good relationships and friendships and make memories. We don't want them to miss out on key experiences. Days absent mean experiences missed and they soon add up. If your child's attendance falls below 96% we will be worried and we will start to work with you to improve attendance.

If your child's attendance drops to 90%, our Family Support Worker will meet with you to put in a support plan. That's because at 90% attendance, your child will have missed 4 weeks of school by the end of the year. This is a lot of missed opportunities.

We want to support you and we work with a range of support agencies. Always ask for help if you need it.

Aims

  • To demonstrate that improving attendance is the responsibility of the whole school community and embed a ‘support first’ approach.
  • To develop and maintain a whole school culture that promotes the benefits of good attendance and is an integral part of the school’s ethos.
  • To make school a place where everyone belongs and that children want to attend.
