Poetry

For our poetry unit we looked at ‘One Mole Digging a Hole’ by Julia Donaldson ready to perform at the HSA Poetry Jam!

We explored the importance of performance in poetry and how rhyme is sometimes used in poems.

We also came up with our own version as a class:

One cow wearing a crown

Two cats wearing hats

Three horses licking the sauces

Four cheetahs munching pizzas

Five whales eating snails

Grammar Hammer

We looked at different elements of grammar and sentence writing. We identified nouns as a person, place or a thing. We were able to stick the pictures under the right heading and then we built sentences using this method.

We used our knowledge of nouns and built sentences including verbs.

Dogger

We used the skills learnt during ‘Grammar Hammer’ and looked at the book ‘Dogger’ by Shirley Hughes. When Dave loses his favourite toy, Dogger, he is desolate. But then Dogger turns up at the school summer fair, and everything seems all right - until someone else buys him before Dave can get the money!

We were able to map the story and write sentences all about Dogger and then we wrote captions all about our favourite toys!

Dogger - Written by Shirley Huges

read by Caroline Finch.

We are BOOKMAKERS!

We have spent the last 2 weeks becoming bookmakers! We have investigated books and looked into when the first book was made. We also looked at parts of a books and what goes on the outside and the inside.

We wrote our own sequencing/counting book full of funky characters and sometimes a rhyme. We shared our stories with Birch Class and signed our names on our creations.
