We all enjoyed our class fashion show talking about our costumes and the books the characters are from.
Can you guess them all?
We also turned our classroom into a Reading Cafe split into lots of fun activities like retelling traditional tales with masks and puppets, as well as creating our own characters and creating funky bookmarks.
We also enjoyed singing along to a special World Book Day song

St Andrew's Day in Hawthorn
To celebrate St Andrew's Day Hawthorn took part in lots of Scottish themed activities as well as looking into who St Andrew was and the message he helped spread across the world.
We focused on his passion for sharing and we shared some shortbread biscuits as well as creating playdough fish to help us remember the story of Jesus feeding the 5000 (Things got pretty messy!)
We also for PE did some traditional Scottish dancing

To celebrate Diwali, the festival of light Hawthorn took part in an exciting dance workshop. They learnt all about the story of Rama and Sita and why Diwali is such a special celebration for Hindus and Sikhs. The children enjoyed getting a chance to explore such a vibrant and exciting festival.
Shubh Diwali!
Outdoor Learning Day!
Hawthorn had a fantastic time during Outdoor Learning Day, embedding their learning into an outdoor experience. Throughout the day there was plenty of opportunity to get outside and explore the wider environment to learn. We started the day with a Phonics Trial finding the hidden Graphemes in groups. We then continued work on 'Mr Big' our English text by performing some Jazz Music for ourselves.
After Lunch, we created our own bird nests and bird houses. We even planted some broad beans in the planters outside our classroom and took our own individual broad beans home!
Have a look outside in the planters can you see any of our broad beans growing?
Super Scientists
In Science, Hawthorn we have been learning all about Habitats and we have even looked into Microhabitats. We explored the Microhabitats around our school field and found plenty of wildlife and discovered many animals who were camouflaged to the environment.
What Microhabitats can you spot in your local area?
Marvellous Maths
In Maths, Hawthorn have been consolidating their knowledge of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. They have then go on to explore halving numbers....even those with a remainder!
Hawthorn have worked really hard to establish odd and even numbers to help halve their numbers with ease!
Can you count in 2s, 5s and 10s?
Terrific Theologians
As part of their Religious Education, Hawthorn took part in some Rosh Hashanah celebrations. They were able to learn some customs and even learn a bit of Hebrew through song.
The children partook in the eating of apples and honey which is often part of the Rosh Hashanah celebrations in the Jewish community, some enjoyed it more then others
Shana Tova, Happy Rosh Hashanah
A happy Jewish New Year to you all!
Wonderful Writers
In English Writing lessons, we have been focusing on building sentences to make sure we know exactly what it takes to build a good sentence. We have looked at several texts including familiar ones like 'Humpty Dumpty' and 'Five Little Ducks' rehearsing them and learning them by heart before we would create sentences to retell the story/rhyme.
