Tag Rugby Festival

On Thursday 22nd March a team of 10 children from Years 3/4 and a team of 10 children from Years 5/6 attended the Tag Rugby Festival at the Hertford Rugby Club. As always, the event was exciting and enjoyable.

Mr Foster, from the Hertford and Ware Partnership, had prepared the children for the festival by teaching them how to play tag rugby during their PE lessons.

Although the weather was bitterly cold, the children were not fazed and during each match they worked as hard as they could, running the length of the pitch, supporting each other as well as using their tag rugby skills well.

This is the first year that we have taken a Year 3/4 team and both Mrs Ambler and myself were very proud of them all. There were only 4 schools that entered; this meant that the children played 3 matches. The first match they lost, match two they drew and match three they won.

More schools entered the Year 5/6 tournament; this meant that the children played 7 matches. One of the schools was Middleton which is a special needs school. Our children were advised that the rules would be slightly different during this game which they accepted without a fuss. They were brilliant, allowing the special needs children to make a run and score a try without tagging them. It was soon evident though that this school had some very fast runners.

Year 5/6 won 4 matches, drew 1 and lost 2.

A wonderful afternoon had by all.
