  • School Closure 20th March

Fri 20 Mar 2020 Ross Jones

    School Closure

Thank you for your support and understanding during these difficult and uncertain times. We were very sad to see all the children leave today, knowing that may be some time before they all return.

I am very proud of my hard working and dedicated staff who have committed to keep the school running over the last several weeks and will continue to provide a safe place for those who we are required to provide care for.

We all certainly look forward to reopening as a school in the near future.

In the meantime, please follow all the advice given, ‘Social distancing MUST be enforced whilst your child is not in school if we are to prevent/minimise the spread of infection.’

Whilst this is a troubling and concerning time for us all, help to reassure your children that we are thinking of them and as I often say to them – Storms don’t last forever!

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you need help with anything or if you would just like a friendly ear to listen.

  • School Closure Update

Thu 19 Mar 2020 Ross Jones

    Dear parents/carers,

Re: Coronavirus update – school closure to most pupils

Following on from my last update, I’m writing to let you know that we have now been instructed to close the school to almost all children after this Friday until further notice.

As advised by the government, we will do all we can to stay open for the children of key workers and children with certain needs.

So far the list of Key Workers includes:

    • NHS staff
    • Emergency Service workers
    • Social Workers
    • Social Care Workers
    • Delivery drivers within the food chain

This list may possibly be extended following further Government updates.

It would help us in the meantime if you could let us know if you think your child may fall into one of these categories.

It is likely that BOTH parents will need to be key workers. We’ll be in touch again as soon as we are sure who this does apply to.

All other children will need to stay at home, so we ask that you do not send your child into school from Monday onward.

Please note that this is a national closure – as you may have heard in the news – so while it is a challenging situation, we are not alone. We’ll re-open fully as soon as we can and will let you know when this is through the school website and Parentmail.

This is as much as we know right now and we appreciate your continued patience with as we deal with this ever-changing situation. We understand that this latest news will have an impact on you and your family and it’s far from ideal, but we’ll continue to keep in touch with any updates as the situation develops.

If you want to get in touch to share any concerns, please don’t hesitate to do so.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mr R Jones

  • IN THE EVENT OF SCHOOL CLOSURE

Wed 18 Mar 2020 Ross Jones
In the event of the school closing, we will announce it here on the school website, by text and via Parentmail. For the duration of the closure, teachers will be updating class pages with suggested ideas, activities and links to support the children's learning at home.  If you are already in self-isolation, please continue with daily reading and times table practice and refer to the School Closure link under the parents' tab of the school website for some free resources.
  • CORONAVIRUS

Tue 17 Mar 2020 Ross Jones

    Dear Parents,

There has been much work in school around the Coronavirus situation, as I’m sure you can imagine. Senior staff are well supported by governors and I liaise closely with all other local primary schools.  I receive regular updates from both the operational director at HCC and Hertfordshire’s Public Health Lead; there are varied contingency plans in place.

For the time being, and until we are directed to act differently, school remains open. Individuals are advised to isolate if they show symptoms such as a new persistent cough, or a high temperature.  We absolutely understand that this is a worrying time for parents – please rest assured that all local heads are doing their utmost to keep their community safe, as well as manage many operational considerations.

Teaching and support staff have had the opportunity to discuss protocol and go through the school’s contingency plan.

With this in mind, the school has taken the decision to:

    • cancel celebration assemblies
    • postpone sporting matches and events until further notice
    • cancel swimming lessons at Stevenage Pool
    • limit the number of visitors to the school
    • merge classes should the need arise

We will await further guidance and update you all as soon as possible in any given situation.

Thank you for your continued support.

    Ross Jones

  • Science in Stories

Fri 13 Mar 2020 Miss Raw

On Friday 13th March we completed Science Week with special activities in the hall after school. Thank you to everyone who came and made slime for Horrid Henry and magical potions with Harry Potter!

As you can see, we enjoyed sharing our learning and passing on our discoveries (particularly the messy explosive ones!) to others.
