  • MP Mark Prisk visits Hertford St. Andrew

    Sun 20 May 2018

We have been supporting the Send My Friend To School campaign in the UK. It is about persuading the UK government to sign the Safe Schools Declaration to support all children being able to go to school safely by 2030. We learned about the barriers to education and how we can make schools safe. Every learner in KS1 and KS2 made a Safer Schools poster to support this campaign.

We asked our local MP Mark Prisk to visit our school and share what we have learned. After a school tour, he talked about gender equality to our year 4's who have been learning about this global goal last term. During an assembly the children then asked him about local and world issues. The questions were expertly asked and generated interesting answers. Lastly, he met our school council and discussed their role.

The Send My Friend to School campaign has been very successful and Mark said that the UK has now signed the declaration to support helping children to be able to go to school safely by 2030! Well done to everyone who made a difference through this important initiative!

  • Roller Skating

Fri 18 May 2018 Mrs Garbutt

This year we were very lucky to be offered 2 free roller skating sessions for both key stage 1 and key stage 2 children.

This took place on the key stage 2 playground after school on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th May.

The sessions proved very popular amongst the children in all year groups and they were all very excited on both days.

Once dressed in their safety gear with their roller skates laced up and secure they were eager to begin. After they were shown the safest way to fall, which was on their protected knees, there was no stopping them.

There was lots of fun and laughter and resilience as well as some amazing skating. Those children that found skating a little scary and quite difficult at first, soon mastered it and whizzed around the playground. A big thank you goes to Miss Raw, Mrs Terris and Mrs Caruana for their help to put the safety gear on the children and their encouragement as the children began to skate. It was also lovely to include parents in this exciting event.
