  • Amwell View Visit

Fri 24 Mar 2017 Mr Moore

Over the Spring term, three representatives from Hertford St Andrew (Ryan , Zoe and Kobi) have been visiting Amwell View to work with young people with both physical and cognitive learning disabilities. It has been a wonderful learning experience for each of our children and they have clearly developed a better understanding of emotional and social factors that affect others. In particular they have realised how people with a range of disabilities are still able to enjoy a wide range of activities and they were amazed at what they ‘can’ do and stopped looking at what they ‘couldn’t’ do.

After the morning visits, Ryan, Zoe and Kobi were invited back to support their new friends in a sporting event. Each of them were responsible for helping their team to succeed in the competition by ensuring that the activities were run correctly and all of the young people could participate safely. They did a wonderful job of ensuring the event went very smoothly and Mrs Garbutt received a number of comments on how supportive and helpful our children were. Each of our children proved to be excellent ambassadors for the school and we at Hertford St Andrew are very proud of them.

Special thanks must go to Mrs Rita Leader for making it possible for us to be able to send our children and a big thank you to the young people of Amwell View School for making us so welcome. A final gratitude must go to Mrs Garbutt who ensured the children were safely transported to and from each visit and for organising the experience.

  • Hertford St Andrew v Thundridge

Wed 22 Mar 2017 Jessie Dean & Gloria Myalti

    FOOTBALL MATCH VS THUNDRIDGE

On Thursday 16th March, 11 year 4, 5 and 6 members (Eddie, Jack, Jessie, Gloria, RyanD, RyanA, Levi, Maison, Kobi, Cody and Erik) played a football match against Thundridge.

We were all very nervous at the beginning as last time they beat us 5-2, so we knew we all had to play our best. The opposite team scored an early goal, which made us want to play harder to beat them.

Yes! We scored! 1-1. We were catching up. Then 2-1 to them but not long after we scored another goal. With only minutes left of the game we scored a winning goal! 3-2 to us!

With some amazing tackling and keeping her position in defence, Jessie was the man of the match. Well, girl of the match!

    Football Competition

On Wednesday 15th March 2017, Hertford St Andrew’s Football team played in a football competition at Woodson Park. The team included: Eddie, Jack, Ryan A, Ryan D, Levi, Devon, Cody, Kobi and Maison. We left the school at 12:30 and arrived at Woodson Park at

12:45.It started at 13:00. The first match we played was against Bayford Primary School. Unfortunately we lost our first game 1-0. The next game we took part in was against Thundridge. We lost that game 1-0 as well. After that we played Little Munden and we won the match. Next was Tewin Cowper and fortunately for us we came out victorious. The last three games we played were against Tower A, Tower B and Hunsdon where we were victorious in one and unfortunately lost the other two by a very narrow margin.

The entire team had a wonderful time at the competition and the team stuck together no matter the result. Thanks to Mrs Garbutt and Miss Melville we were able to participate. The team were very well behaved and had a brilliant attitude towards the other teams.

  • Fantastic Football!

Fri 10 Mar 2017 Mr Moore

Yesterday (9th March 2017) Hertford St Andrew hosted their first competitive football match of the year. A very excitable squad were prepared for a tough return match after playing Little Munden in the autumn term. On that occasion we managed to win 5-0 but the players were very conscious of not taking that result for granted.

After warming up and preparing the pitch, Little Munden arrived and started to get ready for the kick off. Our team had a last minute discussion about positions and tactics and then it was time for action. It was obvious, rather quickly, that we were quite nervous and before we knew it an excellent long shot from one of the Little Munden players flew past Devon in the Hertford St Andrew goal. We were 1-0 down but that only served to wake us up. Gloria started to take control of the midfield and we began to pass the ball around confidently. Following a sustained period of very positive play, we managed to get the score back to 1-1 and then we really took off. Little Munden were still applying pressure to our defence and goalkeeper but we managed to keep out all of the long shots. The team’s hard work and positive play led to two goals from Eddie, two from Ryan and a very well deserved goal from our star player, Gloria. As the final whistle blew, we had beaten a very good Little Munden team 5-1. Our squad included: Eddie (C), Gloria, Jessie, Maison, Devon, Erik, Jack and Ryan - well done to you all.

Thank you to all of the parents/carers and teaching staff that came along to support the team. It created a fabulous atmosphere and was a very positive event for our local community. The juice and biscuits were organised by Mrs Garbutt and the photography by Mrs Bond; a massive thank you to you both. And last, but by no means least, a big thank you to Little Munden for taking part in a match that was played in an excellent manner with hand shaking and three cheers from both teams at the end.
