  • World Food Day

    Tue 17 Oct 2017
On World Food Day we learned about lots of different aspects about food around the school including: food waste, where hunger exists in the world, the journey of food from where it is grown to arrive at our plate, what different foods countries eat and recipes for food. Children also took part in a poster competition. The results and prizes will be at the first celebration assembly after half term.
  • Kingswood Day 4

Thu 05 Oct 2017 Mr Moore

    Good evening to you all.

Welcome to the last report from Kingswood 2017. It's been another action packed day and i think we are all now feeling tired from the physical challenges of the week. Only one more sleep to go and then not long until we will be back in Hertford.

Our last full day started with the usual breakfast fill up before we went to the usual meeting place (line 16!). However, this morning the heavens opened and we got rather soaked prior to our first activity of Frisbee Golf. Not soon after starting, the sun came out and we all dried off rather quickly adding to the fun of the game. After some excellent use of the wind, trees and bushes, Malacai and Kira were the eventual winners. Jungle Vines was next and the children that climbed the dizzy heights should all be very proud of their achievements. A rather difficult balancing act that took lots of concentration and nerve. Aeroball followed which was a very competitive game and all children took part more than once ensuring that they had different partners each time. Lots of energy was required to compete as the game is a combination of basketball and trampolining (I'll let your children explain!!!).

Lunch followed and one of the toughest challenges was next - High Equilibrium. In pairs, the children had to climb very high poles to a seesaw that is suspended at a height from the ground. Well done to all of the children who attempted this but special mention must go to Levi and Kira who were completely fearless in their approach to the challenge. A more sedate Nature Walk followed, with the group searching out particular plant types and exploring nature close up. Some interesting facts were given by our group leader Joe. See if your child can tell you about some of the interesting facts when you see them. Fire Lighting took place in a secret area in the middle of some woodland. The group were shown how to begin to make a fire using kindling and sparks (some were more successful than others!!).

After dinner, it was time for the customary Disco. Lots of other children from a number of large schools left our children feeling slightly overawed but with the right tunes, they slowly got into their rhythm. A last evening hot chocolate was consumed before packing was completed ready for our return tomorrow. Another fun day and as I finish this last report, I'm hoping that they will have all fallen into a deep sleep. We look for to seeing you all tomorrow. Enjoy the photos!

  • Harvest Assembly

    Thu 05 Oct 2017
We celebrated Harvest today and Reverend Alan taught us a lot about how far food has to travel to get to our plate. Mrs Sampson also performed as a chef to make a pizza! All the children read Harvest poems, sang Harvest songs and we heard prayers from each class and Reverend Caruana . Thank you to all your kind donations which will go to the Hertford Food Bank and Stevenage Haven,
  • Kingswood Day 3

Wed 04 Oct 2017 Mr Moore

    Good evening to you all.

It has been yet another rip-roaring success of a day today with lots of activities, fun and food all crammed into just 15 hours!! Seven activities, to be precise, with lots of travelling between venues and just the three full meals to consume.

A hearty breakfast was followed by Team Challenge which consisted of the two groups making their way around varied equipment on the small climbing course. With individual challenges as well, it worked to wake us up and put us in the right frame of mind for the day ahead. Indoor Climb was next and all of the children attempted to climb two selected walls which were very challenging. Some managed to reach the top which they should be exceptionally proud of although it was excellent to see all of the group push their personal boundaries. In Team Tech, Mrs Garbutt and I played the roles of Dragons from The Den and had to choose a winning design made from Meccano like pieces (on a much larger scale). The winning group finished with an idea for a combined skateboard and scooter.

After another filling lunch, we braved the rather chilly outside to crawl our way through Nightline. The children are blindfolded and tasked to make their way around a series of intricate courses (on their knees - very muddy!!). Lots of slight bumps but very very funny. Special mention must go to Malacai and Ryan for completing all the courses without cheating!! A fun pool session followed, with a bit of water polo and lots of splashing, before we made our way to Aerial Runway (Zip Wire). the most pleasing aspect of this was how everyone immediately harnessed up and dived straight in to the activity. It was the most enthusiastic showing to date with the group displaying an exceptionally high level of enjoyment.

We decided that after the zip wire activity would be a good time to visit the shop and the children were quick in spending their money on a wide range of items from the gift shop. Dinner followed and we then had our last activity of the day, Mini Olympics. Lots of 'different' races were contested by two teams and more importantly lots of fun and laughter was shared. Again, as I type, the children are finally settling down to sleep ready to do it all again tomorrow. Enjoy today's pictures.

  • Kingswood - Day 2

Tue 03 Oct 2017 Mr Moore

Good evening to you all again.

We had a rather tough night here on our first night at Kingswood due to one of our girls becoming very ill. Mrs Garbutt did an absolutely fantastic job of caring for Natasha all through the early hours of this morning but it was decided by all that she should be collected and taken home. A really sad moment for me and Mrs Garbutt but particularly upsetting for Natasha. We all wish her well and hope that she is already on the road to a full recovery.

After the dramas of the night, we still managed to pull ourselves out of bed nice and early and made our way to breakfast where we ate enough to feed a small army. Our first activity was Archery and I think it's safe to say that Robin Hood has at least a few threats to his job. This was followed by the first high set activity, Abseiling. All of the children made it to the top of the tower (more than I did!!) and most made their way down to the bottom, although some rather more confident than others. Special mention to Maison who took the final steps this year and plunged over the edge.

Orienteering followed and the children were split into groups to charge around the grounds looking for numbered stamps. Lots of enthusiasm but peppered with a few missed letters! From there, we made our way to lunch and recharged our batteries ready for the afternoon session.

Problem Solving was the first activity of the afternoon and it took a while for the group to get their brains to operate at the right pace (including the teachers!) but we managed to get there in the end. On to crate stack where we had some fantastic success with very high stacks and lots of unicorns. I think I'm right in saying that the highest was Levi who managed to reach 15 before swinging off. The afternoon session ended with arguably the funniest activity of all, the 3G Swing. Some decided not to participate but those who did pulled some of the most hilarious faces as the swing was first released.

On to dinner, lasagna or jacket spuds with salad and soup if we wanted. More filling of the stomachs! Then our last session which was Trail of Mystery. A murder had been committed and the children played the roles of suspects, jury and clerks (even I had a part!!). It was finally established that Penelope (Maison) had committed the dasterdly deed and he was appropriately dealt with!!

Again, the day ended with hot chocolate and I think it's fair to say that we are exhausted. As I type, the children are tucked up in bed and I wouldn't be surprised if they are not already fast asleep............well fingers crossed!! Enjoy today's photos.

  • Year 2 sports at Wodson Park!

Tue 03 Oct 2017 Miss Raw

Year 2 had a fantastic time at the KS1 Infant Agility festival at Wodson Park on Monday!

We began our morning on the runner and stepper activity, particularly enjoying crawling through the tunnel! The thrower task was tricky, and we used our hands to help us aim the balls and javelins at the target. The hoops, ropes, balancing route and long jump needed lots of concentration, but I think our favourite activity had to be the pitcher and bowler (the giant flower pots were great targets!) Finally, we ended the morning showing everyone our yoga skills on the balance beams!

  • Kingswood - Day 1

Mon 02 Oct 2017 Mr Moore

    Good evening to you all.

After a long drive down we made it safely to Kingswood and settled in only for the boys to be told that we were moving. This wasn't such a bad thing as we found ourselves split into different buildings but now we are together again (although on different floors!)

We have already experienced a few fun activities which started with Indoor Laser Tag. This was hotly contested by the groups but all had lots of fun. After a typical kids dinner (nuggets and chips!!) we then enjoyed the Scrapheap Challenge. Two groups had to dress a member of the team as robots ready for vigorous testing before then being challenged with building something to protect a water balloon. Excellent fun!

As I type, the boys are all experimenting with their en-suite showers before a quick snack and bed. They seem to be tired but I'm not holding my breath!!

    More updates tomorrow.
