  • Year 2 and 6 join the circus!

Mon 26 Jun 2017 Miss Raw

Today Year 2 and Year 6 were joined by Glyn from Alight Fingers to learn circus skills. The day began with Glyn demonstrating how to use a range of exciting equipment including juggling balls, stilts, hoops, and a unicycle!  The children (and adults!) were very impressed with his skills!

Year 2 and 6 then practised balancing a feather on their hands. The trick was to just focus on watching the top to keep it upright and balanced. Once they had practised this skill, they were balancing the feather on their fingers, elbow, chin, nose and even swapping parts of their body without the feather falling!

Next the children rotated through different equipment boxes, practising juggling (moving from one ball to three), flower sticks and the diablo. We were so impressed with the perseverance and persistence shown.

Finally, the children were put into mixed groups and created a show to perform at the end of the day. The rest of the school were amazed!

Thank you once again to Glyn for such an inspiring day!

  • Girls Cricket Success

Mon 26 Jun 2017 Jessie and Marie

On Friday 16th June, some girls from Year 5 and 6 competed in a girl's Kwik Cricket competition at Sele School. We were very nervous to begin with because we were the only small school there, however we were also very excited.

Our first game was against Millmead, a medium school. We just about beat them (but only by one run) even though our bowling wasn't very good. In our second game we went against Morgans A and won by 15 runs; we improved our batting and bowling as we went along.

Unfortunately we lost our last game in our pool matches which was against St John the Baptists. We were then called over to the meeting table where we then got told that we were the second best placed team because of our runs and we were put into the semi-finals.

We had to go against Tewin A team but sadly we lost as they had a county player who had been allowed to bat twice because they were a player short. In the end we came third and were very happy with ourselves; it was a great experience for all of us.

  • Hartham Legacy Games

Wed 21 Jun 2017 Mr Moore

On Wednesday 21st June, all of KS2 from Hertford St Andrew attended a Sporting Legacy event that was held at Hartham Common. 62 children and several members of staff all with sunhats, water and lashing of suntan lotion walked the route down in already blistering heat.

On our arrival we were greeted by some very helpful sports leaders who took the children straight into the warm-up routine with the other schools who were participating. We were all briefly introduced to Max Whitlock and Steve Parry, both Olympic medallists from previous games.

Our young people were then split up into their respective year groups and started to participate in the round-robin activities that were set up. Activities such as netball, shot putt, sprint and hockey, to name but a few, was enjoyed by all. As the temperature headed towards thirty four degrees, we all took advantage of the numerous water stations dotted around the site. Again, the sports leaders from the event were fantastic, helping the classes though each activity. As you can see, Mr Azzopardi was busy as our dedicated photographer and has given us a wonderful picture record of the day.

We all finished the activities and gathered under some large trees to make the most of the shade. Whilst there, we were visited by Max Whitlock, gymnastics gold medallist from London 2012, who kindly took the time to impart some valuable words of wisdom to our own gymnastic superstar, Gloria.

After lunch, all schools gathered by the track for the sprint finals and the relays. We had representatives in a number of races and I am very proud to say that we won a number of medals, from gold to bronze, with particular mention going to Khianna who ran exceptionally well in her final to take gold. All medals were presented by the two Olympians.

Overall, we had a wonderful day and our children were excellent ambassadors for the school, showing high levels of respect and manners towards all of the leaders. A mention must go to the staff and adult helpers who through such extreme heat ensured that the day went very smoothly, thank you all.

  • Take One Picture Week

    Fri 09 Jun 2017
We have been learning about the Holy Spirit and Holy Trinity during Take One Picture week. The children have all been creating masterpieces of art which have been displayed in the hall for our gallery. It has been a great way to celebrate Pentecost.
