  • Memory Project Portraits to Syria

    Fri 30 Mar 2018

Our children have created portraits of children in a Syrian Refugee camp to send and let them know we are thinking of them. We learned a lot about their crisis and what is happening in Syria currently.

The Memory Project is a charitable nonprofit organization that invites art teachers and their students to create and donate portraits to youth around the world who have faced substantial challenges, such as violence, disasters, extreme poverty, neglect, and loss of parents.

  • Tag Rugby Festival

Thu 29 Mar 2018 Mrs Garbutt

On Thursday 22nd March a team of 10 children from Years 3/4 and a team of 10 children from Years 5/6 attended the Tag Rugby Festival at the Hertford Rugby Club. As always, the event was exciting and enjoyable.

Mr Foster, from the Hertford and Ware Partnership, had prepared the children for the festival by teaching them how to play tag rugby during their PE lessons.

Although the weather was bitterly cold, the children were not fazed and during each match they worked as hard as they could, running the length of the pitch, supporting each other as well as using their tag rugby skills well.

This is the first year that we have taken a Year 3/4 team and both Mrs Ambler and myself were very proud of them all. There were only 4 schools that entered; this meant that the children played 3 matches. The first match they lost, match two they drew and match three they won.

More schools entered the Year 5/6 tournament; this meant that the children played 7 matches. One of the schools was Middleton which is a special needs school. Our children were advised that the rules would be slightly different during this game which they accepted without a fuss. They were brilliant, allowing the special needs children to make a run and score a try without tagging them. It was soon evident though that this school had some very fast runners.

Year 5/6 won 4 matches, drew 1 and lost 2.

A wonderful afternoon had by all.

  • District 7-a-side Football Competition

Sun 18 Mar 2018 Mr Moore

On Friday 16th March, eight boys from year 5 and year 6 took part in a round robin football competition. There were nine schools in total and our team would play eight games.

Our first game showed that the team were nervous but they soon settled into their stride and won the game 3-0. This result lifted the boys and the following two games ended with comfortable wins. In the fourth match the team came up against a Bayford side that were looking very sharp and energetic where we were now looking a bit tired after four back to back games. A very close game followed ending in a 2-2 draw. This was followed by the teams only loss against an all conquering Hunsdon side where they lost 3-0.

Game number 6 brought Hertford St Andrew back to winning ways and they managed to continue this run through the final two matches. Overall, the team played 8, winning 6, drawing 1 and losing 1. An excellent performance from the boys which ended in the team receiving silver medals for achieving an overall second place. Very well deserved and well done to all the team.

  • Sportshall Athletics

Sun 18 Mar 2018 Mr Moore

On Wednesday 7th March, sixteen boys and girls from Year 5 and 6 attended the annual Sportshall Athletics event held at Wodson Park. The event is organised by the Hertford and Ware School Sports Partnership and is always an exciting and competitive event.

After lots of practise at school over the last few weeks, the team were prepared and raring to go. We arrived to find four other schools taking their places on the banked seating area in the North Hall and we could see the different events already set up ready for the activities to start. At this point, Mrs Garbutt and I noticed that, with some of the children, nerves had taken hold and there was a sudden silence.

It was time for the first running event, which was the girl’s obstacle relay, whilst the boys made their way to their first field events. Nerves would now have to serve to support the athletes as they made their way to the starting positions. The girls who ran the first race were outstanding, giving 100% effort against very tough competition. Very quickly, all the team got into the rhythm of the event and the performances improved as we felt more and more comfortable.

There were some fantastic individual performances as well as working well as a team. Unfortunately, due to not having enough competitors it wasn’t possible for us to win the competition but all had a wonderful time and performed exceptionally well.

  • Science Week

Fri 16 Mar 2018 Miss Raw

First of all I would like to say thank you so much for the fantastic minibeast and bug explorer costumes you created for today's science week finale!

On Friday afternoon our science week ended with special bug themed science show in the hall. The children were able to create their own jumping fleas and grasshoppers, play with slime, design and test their own spider's webs, learn more about worms and food webs, test dragonfly paper spinners and explore camouflage with the help of the leaf insects!

  • Royal Albert Hall Gala

    Sun 11 Mar 2018

Pupils from Years 4 and 5 had the amazing opportunity to take part in this year's Hertfordshire School's Royal Albert Hall Gala.

If I Had Wings was a retelling of the Icarus myth.

We were part of one hundred primary schools and twenty secondary schools making up the choir.

The story was narrated by author Michael Rosen and illustrated by artist James Mayhew (who was sitting very close to us).

Although we had an early start, everybody who took part would agree that it was worth it for the fantastic experience.

We can all now say that we performed at the Royal Albert Hall!

  • WE DAY!

    Thu 08 Mar 2018

After our successful fundraising campaign in November for WE Walk for Water, 12 of our children were invited to WE Day at Wembley Arena!

It was an amazing event with tons of music and dance acts along with famous celebrities and even princesses! See the photos for a few familiar faces.

There were many inspirational speakers on the day who told us their stories about overcoming setbacks and their keys to success. This ranged from victims of bullying, abuse and prejudice, campaigning youtubers and refugees' stories, to young people who had set up charities, victims of Grenfell, and people with disabilities who had climbed mountains. The messages were very much to believe in yourself and know you can achieve anything you set out to do.

We learned about many campaigns that have taken place this year and the importance of the WE movement all around the world. Our learners were fantastically behaved, engaged and will remember this day for a long time to come!

Finally, one of our girls was invited for an in show highlight and shared in front of the 10,000 crowd our success story about our water walk.

For those that missed the live stream, you can view the event in 2 parts if you search YouTube for 'we day wembley 2018'

    What the children said:

Millie - My favourite part was listening to the people's experiences and how they felt. I will always remember what Katie Piper said about having the acid attack. she inspired me not to give up on my dreams because set backs doesn't mean you can't accomplish them.

Eva - My favoutire performer was Tokio Myers because he played lots of instruments. The speaker I will remember most was the boy that was in a young offenders home for 8 years and didn't give up. I also was inspired by Spencer West because he climbed a mountain without any legs.

Tiffany - I enjoyed Tokio Myers and Alexandra Burke's music the most. Lilly Collins inspired me because she said a setback could have ruined her career but she got back up and persevered. She was brave and didn't give up.

Harry - I enjoyed the Wheel of WE because they started throwing T-shirts into the crowd. The person talking about bullying inspired me because he was trying to stop bullying.
