Our History curriculum is carefully designed so children learn about British and World History in a sequenced way. They learn the stories of our past and important events from all around the world. They learn about people who changed the world. They learn how Historians learn about the past and how to ask questions.

In History, children revisit key themes in their learning. By encountering these themes over time, children are helped to understand the context of what they are learning. It helps children to understand the significance of their learning and how new learning relates to old. Our historical themes are:
I believe: how faith shaped lives |
A child like me: lives shaped by society |
People on the move: settlement and migration |
Empire: invasion and expansion |
Creativity: Art and Invention |
Changemakers: people who changed the world and how we see it |
We also develop key disciplinary knowledge. Children learn to think like historians by building skills in these areas:
Methods: How do we know? |
Changes, Causes, Consequences: what changed, what didn’t, why did it change, what was the impact? |
Chronology: what happened when? |
Enquiry: What can we find out? |
Significance: So what? |

Our Geography curriculum teaches children about the planet we share, the people we share it with and how to take good care of it. Children learn about sustainability as part of Geography and start their journey of stewardship of our world.
Geography is taught through our key themes which are revisited as children progress through the curriculum:
Where in the world? |
Understanding our world |
People in our world |
Diversity in our world |
Our changing world |
Taking care of our world |
Children learn the disciplinary knowledge they need to think and learn like a geographer:
Using maps, globes and atlases |
Recording and communicating |
Way finding with compasses and directions |
Fieldwork skills including measuring and analysing |
Making maps and plans |
Observing and asking questions |
