PE

At Hertford St Andrew Primary School we strive to create a culture which produces an active generation who enjoy PE, encourage each other and achieve. We provide a safe and supportive environment for children to flourish in a range of different physical activities. We aspire for children to develop the self-belief that anything can be achieved with determination and resilience.

We offer a varied program of activity to ensure that all children progress physically through a fully inclusive PE curriculum. Our curriculum aims to improve the well-being and fitness of all children, not only through the sporting skills taught, but through the underpinning values and disciplines PE promotes.

All children participate in competitive sport, which can be against self or others. We encourage children to be the very best that they can be whilst demonstrating the school vision, Love Learning. Aim High. Trust God. We aim for all children to be physically active for sustained periods of time and to develop the skills to be able to make informed decisions to lead healthy and active lives. Teaching is supported by Getset4PE resources.

Sports Premium Funding

The government continues to provide additional funding for schools to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding is provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport and is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

At Hertford St Andrew our priority is to provide high quality and exciting sporting opportunities for our children. We aim to improve the quality of our PE provision and increase the participation rates of our children through:

  • Engaging with PE specialist teachers within the local Sports Partnership to develop CPD opportunities for school staff in order to improve the quality of PE provision
  • Providing a wide range of extra-curricular sporting clubs and activities
  • Celebrating the success of school sport teams and individual high level performances
  • Fostering strong links with local sports clubs and neighbouring schools
  • Providing high quality and wide ranging resources
  • Increasing the diversity of opportunities in school
